Lives Not Knives, the Croydon-based anti-violence charity, is a finalist in this year’s National Personal Safety Awards, an event promoted by the Suzy Lamplugh Trust.

Lives Not Knives has been shortlisted for the Young Person’s Safety Award, an individual (under the age of 25) or youth group who have improved the personal safety of others.

The Suzy Lamplugh Trust, supported by NHS Protect, a lone-worker protection service, will be hosting the awards ceremony in central London on October 13.

A panel of judges, including comedian Jo Brand; journalist Victoria Coren Mitchell; the winner of The Voice,  Jermain Jackman; Kiss FM DJ Neev; and Greater Manchester police’s Chief Constable, Gary Shewan, will be deciding the winner.

The Suzy Lamplugh Trust is a national charity which has been operating for 27 years to promote the personal safety of individuals since the tragic murder of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh in 1986.

Lives Not Knives was founded eight years ago in Croydon as an anti-gangs, knife-crime prevention group by Eliza Ribeiro when she was aged 14. It has since grown to London-wide and national prominence with its work in schools and with young people.

Rachel Griffin, a director of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, said: “The awards are a fantastic way to highlight good practice across all sectors and to recognise the hard work of various individuals and agencies that promote and ensure personal safety. We have had an unprecedented amount of nominations and our finalist really are inspiring and I am pleased we are giving people to chance to celebrate all they have achieved.”
